Environmental impact

Creek View launched its school-wide recycling program in 2008 by creating a formal recycling committee and working with our student council. Their objective was to develop and institute meaningful ways that we can dramatically reduce overall landfill waste and promote an earth-friendly lifestyle amongst our student body.

In 2011, Creek View was awarded a health & wellness grant of $10,000 from the National Football League and Atlanta Falcons for the installation of outdoor play areas made entirely out of recycled tires. These mats not only provided soft, safe and durable areas for children to play outside, but it also reduced the amount of dust and pollen brought into the school on children’s clothes and shoes.

Creek View is proud to be part of the Clean Air Schools program taking the lead to ensure that our students are empowered to make a difference for their environment. By learning to “repair the air” with no idling initiatives, promoting carpooling and alternative modes of transportation (walking and riding the bus) and learning about the air we breathe through creative lesson plans, students become stewards for good air quality.

Through these efforts and others, our students become sensitive to the impact they have on the environment.

Our Impact

OUR IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY

Since 2001, Creek View Elementary School has been a committed & responsible member of the Alpharetta community. We believe it is essential for our students to understand the importance of community solutions. Two efforts, in particular, hold a special place in our school’s heart: The community food back and the canine assistance program.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE

North Fulton Community CharitiesEach November, CVES conducts a canned food drive for contribution to North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC), a local non-profit organization targeting homelessness in North Fulton County. Our canned food drive donates between 3,000 - 5,000 cans each year to NFCC. Creek View’s elected student council members are responsible for sending home collection bags, overseeing morning collections in the rotunda, promoting awareness, and packing up all of the cans to send to NFCC. They also have the unique privilege to deliver what we have collected to a very thankful NFCC staff. After unloading the cans on-site, students are given a tour of the food donation process as well as an explanation of the role NFCC plays in the community. Participating in this program has lasting impact on our students by raising the awareness of hunger within our community and ways that they can prevent it.

COINS FOR CANINES

In the spring of 2011, CVES sponsored their first ever Coins for Canines. This organization trains and assigns service dogs to individuals whose quality of life can improve through canine assistance. Our student council worked with the school counselor to educate classmates about the organization and promote awareness for the fundraiser itself. In the end, students collected around $3,000 to donate to Coins for Canines. On a personal level, this program is special to Creek View students due to the addition of our own service dog, Paisley, in 2009. Paisley is a counseling dog used to assist students emotionally and academically.
